Welcome to this course!

Thank you for taking on this monumental task of moving to online teaching in such short time. Students are so lucky to have you! I have not heard one single complaint from you, about the transition time we are all in. It has truly shown your passion and commitment to your profession of teaching, and how much you care about our students. During these times I've seen us come together in some pretty fantastic ways.
This course is meant to be a quick-start guide for getting started with designing your online course.

Online Course Design

This course is less about using the technical components of Canvas, and more about effective online course design. Moving from more traditional teaching and learning environments to online may look very different for each of you, yet there are online course design basics that you can implement to ensure a more successful time for both you and your students.

Learning Outcomes

This course will guide you through:
  1. becoming aware of tech tools available, and deciding why and when you'd use them
  2. humanizing your course, establishing rapport and guidance so your students are comfortable and supported from the start
  3. developing communication strategies so they know how they are to be communicating with you and their classmates
  4. thoughtfully organizing your course in modules so students know where to find everything and what is expected of them
  5. using backwards design as a way to plan out your week-by-week lessons, making sure they align with your course learning outcomes.

You will first want to familiarize yourself with Canvas, Google Classrooms or another online teaching platform.
